mydeposits helps raise £500,000 for Centrepoint through tenant donation scheme
mydeposits has reached a major fundraising milestone after helping to raise £500,000 for youth homelessness charity Centrepoint through its custodial deposit protection scheme.
The total has been generated through the organisation’s tenant interest donation initiative, which allows tenants to donate the interest accrued on their protected deposits to Centrepoint at the end of their tenancy.
The £500,000 raised in just 18 months will help Centrepoint continue its work supporting young people aged 16 to 25 who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The charity provides accommodation, operates a national helpline and delivers programmes that help young people access education, training and employment.
Eddie Hooker, Chief Executive Officer of mydeposits, says “It reflects thousands of individual decisions by tenants who wanted to help young people facing incredibly difficult circumstances. Seeing this level of support in just eighteen months is something we never expected.”

The partnership extends beyond fundraising, with colleagues from mydeposits and the wider HFIS group taking part in a range of volunteering and awareness-raising activities.
Over the past year, some of our team participated in Centrepoint’s annual Sleep Out event, swapping warm beds and central heating for a night outdoors at The Oval cricket ground to help raise awareness of youth homelessness. We have also supported the charity through volunteering opportunities and fundraising initiatives throughout the year.
Looking ahead to £1 million
Building on the success of the initiative, mydeposits and Centrepoint are now aiming to reach £1 million in total donations.
Having already reached the halfway mark, mydeposits is committed to growing the scheme further and continuing to support Centrepoint’s mission to end youth homelessness and help more young people build independent futures.
The impact of tenant donations
- £20 could help fund a one-hour counselling session with a qualified psychotherapist
- £120 could provide an essential starter pack for a young person moving into Centrepoint’s supported accommodation.
- £270 could fund a Centrepoint bursary, helping a young person access education, training or employment opportunities
