mydeposits, provider of tenancy deposit protection (TDP) in England and Wales has been presented with an internationally recognised award.
mydeposits picked up the gong for Excellence in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) or Conflict at the recent biennial Awards* held by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR).
The judging panel** awarded excellence to mydeposits’ ADR scheme; a free and impartial service offered to landlords and tenants unable to reach an agreement over the return of tenancy deposits.
The scheme beat off a fierce field of competition from around the globe to land the award including; ABTA, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic & Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and the South African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors.
The CEDR judging panel commented:
“We were impressed by the Tenancy Deposit Protection scheme run by mydeposits, for which they have designed an alternative dispute resolution (ADR) process.
“In the last two years they have explored new ways of working, innovating and engaging with members, meaning their ADR process has been able to improve and evolve providing benefits to their users.”
The news comes shortly after the scheme announced that is has cut the overall time taken to resolve disputes over the past year and is another positive outcome in what has been a great year for the scheme.
After being given the green light by Scottish Government in May for its sister scheme my|deposits Scotland to operate TDP north of the border, the company also received approval from the Government tocontinue to operate a TDP scheme in England and Wales from April 2013. It is currently bidding to operate a scheme in Northern Ireland.
Commenting on the award, Eddie Hooker, Chief Executive of my|deposits, said:
“We’re constantly looking at ways to develop and improve the service we offer to our members and the my|deposits team has worked hard to create innovative and effective ways of resolving landlord/tenant disputes in a difficult consumer environment.
“For a tenancy deposit protection scheme to work effectively its provision of ADR needs to be trusted and it is vital that we provide landlords, agents and their tenants with the assurance that the service we offer is professional, fair and transparent.
“This award, judged by the largest and most respected leaders of neutral-assisted dispute resolution in the world, is testament to that and it goes without saying that we are absolutely delighted.”
my|deposits is also running free dispute workshops throughout December for letting agents in order to provide insight into dispute resolution. The workshops are free of charge and provide expert advice from senior adjudicators of the scheme, look at common reasons why landlords and letting agents lose out in deposit disputes, and outline key evidence and supporting documents that can help prove a claim.
