What type of account do you have with mydeposits?

On 1st of April we improved the design and look of our main website to accommodate and complement the launch of our brand new and free-to-use custodial deposit protection service (we hold the deposit) as an alternative to our insurance deposit protection service (you hold the deposit).

If you’re a landlord or letting agent in England or Wales and created an account with us before the 1st of April, you may not be familiar with the terms “insurance” or “custodial” in relation to deposit protection schemes.

So, this might lead you to wonder what type of account you now have after the implementation of our new custodial deposit protection option. We can clarify that if you created an account with us before the beginning of April, you have an insurance account. This is because previously, this was our only deposition protection service.

This means that you will have paid a small fee to hold the full security deposit in your bank account. Having a custodial account means that you pay us no fee, but we would safely secure the whole deposit before returning it at the end of the tenancy.

If you are creating an account now, you have the choice to protect your deposit with either our Insurance or Custodial option. You can also switch from insurance to custodial if you prefer.

Why does the website look different?

So, if you’re an existing account holder with us and have been for some time, you may have noticed the recent changes made to our website.

We’ve made the changes not only to accommodate our new custodial protection option and offer our members more choice to suit them, but they’ve also been made to make our website easier to use, navigate and understand.

Therefore, our new design strives to reflect our aims in providing a hassle-free, simple and useful service.

“I’ve had an account with mydeposits for years, how do I login to my account now?”

Your existing account itself is still the same, only the location of the correct login page has changed. Once the amended path to the correct login page is understood, it should become second nature and bring more clarity to the mydeposits process.
