Tenants: beware of new scam

A new potential scam has come to light whereby tenants are being asked to transfer rent in advance directly into mydeposits’ bank account, in order to secure properties being advertised online in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The scam also features the mydeposits logo to make the advert look authentic.

The adverts have nothing to do with mydeposits and the bank account is not affiliated to us – don’t transfer any money as this is a scam.

mydeposits will never ask tenants to send money directly to us in any form and we only protect deposits – paid by landlords or letting agents on behalf of their tenants – for properties in the UK, not overseas.

The situation has been reported to the relevant authorities in Sweden and to the National Fraud and Cyber Crime Centre.
