Landlords
Who can join?
Landlords do NOT need to be a member of a trade or professional association to join the Scheme.
But there are discounts for members of some professional organisations, including the National Landlords Association.
Minimum requirements:
Private Landlords
Must satisfy all of the following:
- Owns residential property in England and Wales which they let on a written Assured Shorthold Tenancy (AST)

- Wants to retain tenancy deposits
themselves. - Is resident in the UK and/or Channel Islands.
- Can provide a correspondence address (other than a box number) in the UK and/or Channel Islands.
- Can provide a telephone contact number.
- Has no convictions for money laundering or any other financial crime.
- Is not disqualified from membership of any other tenancy deposit protection scheme (as defined in the Housing Act 2004).
- Has not been refused a licence required under any part of the Act by any local authority in England and Wales.
- Is willing to accept and abide with the mydeposits Deposit Protection Scheme’s rules [
500kB PDF file]. - Has paid all membership fees due for the period of the membership.
Company/Corporate Landlords
In addition to the above requirements, they must also satisfy the following:
- Registered as a trading company with Companies House in the UK and/or Channel Islands.
- Directors and/or owners of the company have had no past or pending convictions for money laundering or any other financial crime.
- Directors and/or owners of the company are UK residents.
